Founded by long-time friend and collaborator, the energetic and effervescent Brandie Janow, Kingdom Creatives is her solo community venture for helping transform and elevate the creative industries in Saudi Arabia.
In Saudi, appearance is everything - and after much toil and preparation in getting things up and running, Brandie really wanted to make a bit of a splash with her brand identity, so she asked us to take a look.
"Artists and designers see the world differently - they see things other people don't see"
A unique perspective
We sat down for a coffee together and spoke about her goals and aspirations for the brand, and really tried to refine and narrow-down her audiences, what she wanted to say, and how she wanted to say it.
In our conversations together about the brand, we hit upon an idea that what makes creative people the way they are is simply that they see the world differently from everyone else - they see things most people don't see.
We liked this idea, and set to work exploring ways to capture it in an identity design, eventually coming up with a logo design derived from the negative space between the initials K and C.
Barebones
Both Brandie and ourselves share an appreciation for minimalist and concise design systems, so it was unanimous that the identity system would be an orderly, almost barebones style, with crisp, clean typography, even spacing with room to let everything breath – all wrapped up in a neat and tidy grid.
However, we did spice things up a bit, with some bold and striking accent colours to help break the uniformity just a smidge.
But before Brandie could get too excited and carried away, we added some rules in the styleguide about precisely how they should be used.
The perfect outcome
The result is a solid, timeless and beautiful brand identity that captures attention, sets Kingdom Creatives way above anything local competitors have, and adds the finishing touch to appearance and communications that sits perfectly with its audiences.
